Synopsis
Being Bonang is the kind of show that births new empires. Traversing the career and personal life of one of Africa’s biggest public personalities, Being Bonang was not a show pitched out of nowhere, but developed out of a clear demand by Queen B’s adoring fans all around the world – most notably Real Housewives of Atlanta cast member, Porsha Williams.
From viral memes to a newly launched T-shirt range, Being Bonang captured the eyes and hearts of lovers and ‘haters’ alike. While the first season included her tabloid-favourite relationship with rapper AKA, season two introduced viewers to newly-single Bonang, determined to conquer the world. With a new cast featuring her lovable cousin Pinky Girl, and #TheHostess Lorna Maseko, viewers devoured the show on television, tablets and mobile phones.
The Brief:
After she had declined to do a reality show for years, The BarLeader was trusted to produce South Africa’s queen of entertainment, Bonang Matheba’s reality show ‘Being Bonang’. The brief? To create a world class production that still spoke to the South African audience. The challenge was to find a way to ease the superstar into the world of reality shows, that needed her to strip down.
